The story behind zhar

A woman with long, curly hair wearing a white top, blue jeans, and a red handbag standing in front of a large, ornate wooden door with gold accents and intricate carvings.

🇩🇰Created between two worlds🇹🇿

I was born and raised in Denmark, but with deep family roots in Zanzibar. Growing up between these two places shaped the way I experience travel. I experience Zanzibar not just as a destination, but as a place you can feel connected to.

Through family, language and local relationships, I came to know the island in a much deeper way than what most visitors experience. Over the years, I began bringing my closest friends to Zanzibar. Watching them experience the island in this way made something very clear to me — when travel is thoughtfully curated and shared with the right people, something shifts.

People slow down. They open up. They feel present in a completely different way. ZHAR was created to hold that kind of experience.

Not just sightseeing, but meaningful travel built around connection, culture, adventure and moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.

who is zhar for?

ZHAR is designed for women who want more than a typical holiday. Women who are curious about what Zanzibar has to offer, open to new experiences and excited to share a journey with like-minded people. You might be traveling solo, or simply looking for something different than the usual group trip.

ZHAR is for women who value:

meaningful travel

cultural experiences

adventure and celebration

genuine connection with others

it’s about creating a space where women can feel safe, relaxed free to fully experience a new place together

Your host

Hi My name is Azhar, and i’ll be your host throughout the entire journey.

Having family and speaking English, Danish and Swahili fluently and having strong connections on the island means im able to share a side of Zanzibar that goes beyond the typical tourist experience.

From local culture and hidden spots to the iconic experiences that make the island so special. My role is to guide the journey and create a space where everyone feels comfortable, welcomed and excited to explore.

ZHAR is deeply personal to me, and I truly can’t wait to meet the women who choose to be part of it.

What makes ZHAR different?

ZHAR is not built from the outside looking in it is created from within.

Founded between Denmark and Zanzibar, ZHAR offers something most trips cannot real access. Not just to places, but to people, culture and everyday life on the island.

With deep family roots, local connections and fluency in Swahili, every part of the journey is shaped through relationships built over many years.

This means:

• Experiences are not just booked they are personal
• Many activities are run by people we know and trust
• You are guided through the island with cultural understanding and respect
• You always have someone who understands both you and the environment

ZHAR combines the best of both worlds.

The structure, comfort and safety of traveling with a Danish host, with the authenticity, depth and local access of someone who is truly connected to the island.

You’re not just visiting Zanzibar.

You’re being welcomed into it.
